On September 23, 2009, the Supervising Cardinal Commission of the Institute for Works of Religion (I.O.R), presided by Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, renewed the Board of Supervisors of the Institute, where Prof. Carl A. Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus was nominated as a new member.
Hence, the continuity of the Order within the prestigious council perpetuates.
In fact, Mr. Virgil C. Dechant, who has been vice-president of the Institute for the last 19 years, has recently stepped down for age limit, was also a Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson, on the occasion of his nomination, stated, "I am honored to have been selected to be a member of the board of superintendence of the Vatican's Institute for Works of Religion (IOR). I hope that my experience in working with the Vatican on a variety of issues over the past decade, and my work in the business and financial sector – as Supreme Knight and Chief Executive Officer of the Knights of Columbus –will enable me to contribute to the success of the IOR's many important initiatives"..
